Projects Subcommittee

The altar guild room is prepped for painting during. Volunteers will be needed to paint in the new year.

Grants/Policy Subcommittee

$ 5,400 Urban Ministries, which provides services to people who are poor, elderly, disabled, and homeless in Wake County. The agency’s original program, Crisis Support, was initiated by the faith community (including Christ Church). The Crisis Support program provides financial assistance to individuals and families who are in economic crisis and have received a final utility notice or an eviction notice. All funds designated for financial assistance go directly to clients in need.

Grants/Policy Subcommittee

$2000 Emmaus House to replace the furnace in Emmaus I, a halfway house on North Street for homeless men. The men graduate from highly supervised housing in Emmaus I to less supervision in Emmaus II before returning to the community. While at Emmaus, the men are responsible for maintaining the houses, cleaning and other chores and are then referred to job training and employment opportunities.

CCOM suggests the Christmas Offering be divided equally between the Parish Assistance Program and the Guest Program.

Honduras Missionaries: Kim and Mike Miller will be visiting Raleigh the weekend of April 17 and speaking at services on the 18th. The mission trip to Honduras will probably take place in late May or early June. Christ Church is in conversation with Chapel of the Cross Church in Chapel Hill; they may partner with us to coordinate efforts in Honduras.

All Parish Service Day Nov 14th 200 volunteers are needed including 80 volunteers for each shift of the Stop Hunger Now project. Food collections for Wake Relief as well as other landscaping and maintenance projects at Christ Church and St. Saviour’s will be available.

Grants/Policy Subcommittee

Friends Program at Christ Church $2,000: This program provides assistance through the clergy & deacons offices at Christ Church for persons in crisis. There has been unprecedented need this year.

FIGS $9,500: FIGS (Filling in the Gaps) Provides funds to pay for prescriptive medications and medical supplies for low income, uninsured and underinsured people in Wake County. Recipients of this funding come through Urban Ministries and the Wake County Department of Social Services.

Loaves and Fishes Ministry, Inc. $3,000: Funding will be used to provide healthy, nutritious snacks for students in the Loaves & Fishes after school program at Milner Memorial Presbyterian Church. This program serves at-risk students (kindergarten through 12th grade), providing tutoring and homework help.

Meals on Wheels of Wake County $5,000: Funding is requested to support the Adopt-a-Day Program – providing the costs for one day for 1,400 hot, nutritious noontime meals; transporting the meals to 11 congregate or pick-up sites; and volunteer pick-up and delivery of the more than 1,100 meals to the frail, homebound elderly and persons with disabilities served by MOW each weekday.

Report from Projects Subcommittee:

Wake County Department of Aging needs help building wheel chair ramps for people they serve, with a possible work day on October 24. Raleigh Rescue Mission and Interact may also have building and landscape projects this fall.

CCOM is researching a project in early 2010 working with April's Angels, a non-profit organization helping children with physical disabilities and debilitating illnesses to make their rooms more functional and appealing. Details on all these projects will be available soon.

A spring mission trip to Honduras to help the Millers with their orphanage and school is also being discussed.

Boys and Girls Clubs - $5,000

Thompson Child & Family Focus - $1,000

Homeless Support Circle- $2,500 Funding to be given in Memory of Larry Wynns
