ECW Chapters
All women of Christ Church are invited to join one of seven chapters of the ECW. Chapters meet monthly.
St. Adele’s
4th Wednesday, 12 noon in members' homes
Format: Meeting followed by fellowship and lunch
Ginny Kirkland, President
St. Adele's chapter was started in January 2007. St. Adele's vocation was as a wife and mother who served God by taking care of family, praying, and doing works of mercy.
St. Adele is an example of most of the women in our group. We are in our late 30s and 40s focusing on serving God through our family, church, and community.
St. Adele's is dedicated to supporting the Youth Ministry program of Christ Church through the EYC. We have cooked and served meals for the Sunday night EYC meetings. We created care packages for the youth pilgrimage to New Orleans.
St. Adele's will continue to support the EYC with prayers and projects.
St. Bridget's
2nd Thursday, 7:00 PM in members' homes
Whitner Kane & Liz Marin, Co-Presidents
St. Bridget's originated in 2004. It is sponsored by Christ Church women in their 20s and 30s who are interested in getting together for social activities, as well as being active in community service activities both inside and outside the Church.
Our patron Saint is St. Bridget of Ireland who was well known for her boundless charity and compassion.
St. Bridget's has collected items such as clothing, toys, cleaning products, and personal hygiene products for Interact, a local battered women and children's shelter. We are planning on making this activity an annual event at Christ Church. We also collect personal items for the Helen Wright Center, a shelter for women transitioning from homelessness; and collect clothing and accessories for Dress For Success, a non profit dedicated to helping women find jobs in the community.
St. Bridget's also sponsors casserole and quiche sales in the spring as a fundraiser to send local children to summer camp.
St. Clare's
4th Thursday, 7:00 PM in members' homes, at a restaurant, or at church (Aug. – May)
Copie Cain, President
St. Clare's was founded in the 1990s. We are a diverse group—single, married, full-time workers, part-time workers, stay-at-home moms, etc., who are in our 30s and 40s.
Our members tend to be very involved in the ECW and in the Church as a whole. Our group is service oriented, helping with numerous ECW and church projects and committees throughout the year.
We do not offer Bible Study at meetings but do have a regular devotional.
St. Dorothea's
3rd Wednesday, 12 noon in Chapel for Eucharist and healing service, followed by lunch and a brief meeting in the Christ Church parlor
Mary Ellen Harris, President
St. Dorothea's is the oldest ECW chapter at Christ Church. We don't think of ourselves as the oldest members, however. We are thriving seniors and actively involved. We have fourteen members and a sustaining member at the Penick Home in Southern Pines.
We have had several bible studies in the past and a study of Christian hymns.
We have financially supported the education and care of two children in Haiti for many years. This is our primary outreach project.
In addition, we recently made a contribution to the St. Mary's Chapter in support of a Christmas Party at St. Saviours for the residents of Glenwood Towers, and have done different craft projects for the Greenery Sale.
St. Genevieve's
3rd Tuesday, 6:30 PM in members' homes (Sept. – May)
Kim Nabors phone: (919) 420-7393, President
St. Genevieve's is a lively group of women with diverse backgrounds. We range in age from 30-something to 50-something. We are single, married, divorced, with and without children.
Our meetings consist of a social gathering plus stimulating discussions each month that have to do with our lives at Christ Church.
Our signature service project is the Growing Together Preschool, and we contribute to the ECW Greenery Sale.
We welcome new members of all ages.
St. Madeleine's
2nd Thursday, 12:00 noon at the church (Sept. – May)
Sally Chapman, President
St. Madeleine's was started to meet the needs of downtown working women. Some of our members have now retired, so we are a mix of working women and retirees. We meet at noon on the 2nd Tuesday of the month for lunch and to find out what is going on at the church. We meet at the church for lunch and devotions.
We have a Christmas Tea for our December meeting and a Potluck Supper in June.
Our chapter selects various outreach projects to support with financial gifts.
St. Mary's
1st Tuesday, 9:30 AM in members' homes (Sept. – May)
Mary Spence Acree, President
St. Mary's Chapter meets mid-morning on the 1st Tuesday of each month, September - May, in members' homes. This year we are reading and discussing two books: Five Voices Five Faiths; An Interfaith Primer edited by Amanda Millay Hughes and Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World by Joanna Weaver. If interested in joining this group, please call Mary Spence Acree (418-8388) for time and location of next meeting.
